We’ve all had someone on Twitter find a way to piss us off. I’ve had people try to talk down to me “because I’m a girl,” and I’ve had people try to convince me that one World Series is better than eleven. Those people usually just get blocked because a) they’re annoying and b) I have no idea who they are in real life. Irritate me, tell me my town didn’t deserve an NHL team, and poof — blocked.
Not so for Jeremy Roenick. Despite the fact that he probably knows zilch of his followers still lets them get under his Ed Hardy/Affliction wearing skin (I’m assuming he wears that based on his Twitter page’s background image). JR’s a blowhard — everyone knows that. That’s why people watch him on NBC Sports, and that’s why he has almost 150K followers.
But one fan decided to piss JR off, and Roenick is trying to turn it into a charity event. I couldn’t find the original tweets on JR’s page (I assume that he’s at least gotten smart and deleted them), but No Guts, No Glory has the very interesting and misguided conversation that Roenick had with his legal counsel. Which he solicited on Twitter.
The lawyer at least was honest and told JR that even if contracts were signed absolving either party of responsibility for physical damage, it’s still breaking the law to have a fight without permits and without it being an actual boxing or MMA match. Sadly, plans for Roenick’s 14th concussion are, as of now, on hold.
