David Backes has had a tough time lighting the lamp this season. Entering his team's game on Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Backes had just four goals in 35 games. Coming off a 24-goal 2011-12 and a 31-goal 2010-11, fans were wondering why Backes was struggling to find the back of the net.
As it turns out, maybe he just needs to shoot the puck while he's on his back.
The goal had a very Alex Ovechkin feel to it, though it was lacking some points for style and flair.
Backes' goal from his back came at a critical time for the Blues. Artem Anisimov had just scored for Columbus to make it a 1-1 game before Backes tallied from his back just nine seconds later. The wonder goal ended up being the deciding factor after a Columbus goal in the third was controversially overturned.
The goal was Backes' 5th of the season. While fans have wondered about his missing scoring touch, Backes has still been a major contributor for the Blues with 17 assists and a team-leading 125 hits.
