Welcome to the fourth installment of Hockey Fights of the Week!
The past week was an interesting one. The gloves didn't hit the ice too often between Feb. 11-17, but when they did they led to some rather memorable moments. Jonathan Toews picked a fight with Joe Thornton only to immediately regret his decision and the second period between Vancouver and Dallas featured three fights in three seconds.
5. Tye McGinn (PHI) vs. Mark Stuart (WIN) – Feb. 12
Short but sweet.
4. Eric Boulton (NYI) vs. Arron Asham (NYR) – Feb. 14
Boulton might have won this fight by a nose, but it was a balanced scrap that saw both fighters land some pretty big punches.
3. Colton Orr (TOR) vs. Kevin Westgarth (CAR) – Feb. 14
If you haven't figured it out by now, Colton Orr is going to be a name you'll regularly see in this series. His scrap against Westgarth had a rather anticlimactic ending, but it was a lengthy, even bout that's definitely worth watching.
2. Ryan Reaves (STL) vs. Aaron Volpatti (VAN) – Feb. 17
Ryan Reaves might be one of the most underrated fighters in the NHL. Check out some of the right-hand bombs he lands on Volpatti. It's probably a good thing this fight ended when it did.
1. Three fights in three seconds – VAN vs. DAL – Feb. 15
Usually we preach quality over quantity, but the three fights that broke out between 15:09 and 15:12 of the second period between Vancouver and Dallas forced us to bend that rule. First, it was Ryan Garbutt and Aaron Volpatti. Next, Vernon Fiddler faced Maxim Lapierre. Finally, the three seconds of insanity concluded with Eric Nystrom battling Dale Weise.
When judged on their own merit, the three fights were pretty average. When judged together, the three fights spanning three seconds were worthy of the top spot on this week's list.
