Everyone expected seeing Jarome Iginla in a Penguins uniform would be weird. He'd been a Flame for so long, most people assume that every shirt in his wardrobe is red. It's just weird to think about him being with another team, so his debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins was bound to be odd. Just not this odd.
Instead of Penguins gold and black, his first game in Pittsburgh was spent in navy and baby blue. This is probably a little more jarring than anyone ever could have thought. Talk about spoiling the mental image most hockey fans had in their mind… good job, Pens.
In his debut, Iginla was a +1 and fired three shots while receiving 17:30 minutes of time on the ice. It wasn't a spectacular debut statistically, but this was one appearance that was noteworthy beyond what he contributed to the box score.
