Vancouver Canucks pay tribute to Boston before game against Red Wings

Few hockey teams dislike each other as much as the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins, a hatred that grew out of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. But, with the events of the past week fresh on everyone's mind, we're reminded of an interesting dichotomy. Sports help us heal after tragedies, but at the same time we're reminded that sports are just that: sports. In the grand scheme of things the hatred and rivalries don't matter.

Maybe that's what helps the most. Who knows. S/t to /r/hockey for this image of Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider before their game against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night:

What is maybe the most moving thing about this photograph is that in no way, shape, or form did this game have a thing to do with the Boston Bruins. That's how enormous the outpouring of goodwill to the city has been from not just the United States, but also from our Canadian friends.
