AHL finally announces drug testing program

The AHL is finally catching up with the rest of the sporting world. The league has announced that an “education and drug testing program” will be in place for the upcoming AHL season.

Here’s what the rest of the report says:

The program, which is a joint effort between the two leagues, the NHLPA and the Professional Hockey Player’s Association (which represents AHL players in collective bargaining) will replicate the policies currently used for for NHL players.

The drug testing program will be administered by the doctors who supervise the NHL/NHLPA Performance-Enhancing Substances Program and the Substance Abuse/ Behavioral Health Program.

Well, it’s about time. It’s amazing that it took so long for a firm policy to be in place.
