Hockey Fights of the Week: 10/20 – 10/26

The 2014-15 season is in full swing and we’re ready to bring you the second installment of Hockey Fights of the Week this year. Despite the action on the ice heating up and several teams scrambling and battling to get their year on track, the gloves haven’t been tossed too often. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety has been sitting on their hands and those in charge of ranking hockey fights, yours truly, have an almost impossible task selecting five favorites from a very small pool of scraps.

5. Kevin Klein (NYR) vs Brandon Prust (MON) – Oct. 25

Classic case of a player coming to the aid of a teammate after a big hit and it going horribly wrong. The hit by Prust wasn’t even that objectionable, but Klein rushed in to settle the score. Big mistake. Prust started out slow in this scrap, but he lands some big blows once he gets on a roll.

4. Antoine Roussel (DAL) vs Bryce Salvador (NJ) – Oct. 24

Roussel is a regular name here on Hockey Fights of the Week and he usually puts on a pretty good show. He wasn’t his sharpest in this one and pays the price as Salvador controls the tempo once the mitts go flying.

3. Derek Dorsett (VAN) vs Cody McLeod (COL) – Oct. 24

This bout has kind of an awkward ending, but it’s still an impressive showing by both men. We give the edge to McLeod for his ability to throw punches with both hands – a skill which pays off and allows him to catch Dorsett by surprise.

2. Liam O’Brien (WAS) vs Matt Hendricks (EDM) – Oct. 22

Short, sweet and lopsided. Hendricks wins this fight which is over before it ever really starts. Though this is probably the shortest altercation on the list, it may contain the most intense sequence of punches.

1. Andrew Desjardins (SJ) vs Tanner Glass (NYR) – Oct. 19

We wrap up this week with a solid fight between Desjardins and Glass. We’re going to call this bout a draw, though you could probably make a stronger case for Desjardins over Glass. Tactically, Desjardins keeps Glass close and prevents the Rangers forward from extending and throwing too many punches.
