Interview with Evander Kane creates more trade speculation

Does Evander Kane want to play for the Winnipeg Jets? Based on a recent interview with the forward heard on The TEAM 1040 in Vancouver, the answer to that question is a resounding no

Though Kane attempts to avoid the question, his answers (and his lack of answers) indicate that he has no long-term interest with the Jets. Here’s the transcript, as seen over on

Sekeres and Schaad: Evander do you want to play for the Winnipeg Jets anymore?

Kane: Well, I think, uh, I’m a Winnipeg Jet right now and, um, you know there’s been speculation and rumors for the three years since I got there. You know, we’ll see what happens, and we’ll carry on as if I’m a Winnipeg Jet.

Sekeres and Schaad: There’s not a yes in there, and some Jets fans might say, “Why doesn’t he want to play for us?” or “Why isn’t he absolutely fully on board for playing for us?”…. you’re shaking your finger at me.

Evander Kane: I’m training hard and getting ready for this season, and last summer I didn’t have a full year of training due to some surgery I had, so I found it really important for me to start training early and get in the best shape possible for this season and that’s my focus.

Has a player ever sounded more uninterested in his current team? Instead of squashing the speculation and reiterating his desire to skate with the Jets, Kane opts for the “We’ll see what happens,” route. The line indicating he’s with the Jets right now probably isn’t going to go over well in Winnipeg.

Will a Kane trade finally happen this season? A deal has been rumored for ages, but the Jets have held on to their talented, yet polarizing forward. Kane is probably fed up with all of the speculation and constant ridicule, so now may be the time he forces the Jets to move him to a new club.
