Kings earn $3.75 million for Cup win

The Los Angeles Kings will be taking home a nice chunk of change along with their new Stanley Cup rings. Thanks to an updated collective bargaining agreement which raised the amount of playoff payouts, the teams competing for the Cup divide up $13 million. As the champions, the Kings earn the largest slice and are able to divvy up $3.75 million as they see fit.

Here’s the total list of playoff payouts, via SI.com:

Cup Winner (LA) – $3.75 million
Cup Finalist (NYR) – $2.25 million
Third Round Losers (CHI, MON) – $1.25 million each
Second Round Losers (MIN, ANA, PIT, BOS) – $500,000 each
First Round Losers (STL, COL, DAL, SJ, CBJ, DET, TB, PHI) – $250,000 each
Presidents’ Trophy Winner (BOS) – $500,000
Conn Smythe Winner (Justin Williams) – $250,000

See? The Presidents’ Trophy actually is worth something!
