Report: Jaromir Jagr to stay a New Jersey Devil

Jaromir Jagr has been quite the mercenary for hire since returning to the NHL. After spending the full 2011-2012 season with the Philadelphia Flyers, Jagr signed a deal with the Dallas Stars, and midway through the season he was dealt to the Boston Bruins to chase the Stanley Cup. Jagr got close, with the Bruins losing in the finals, but he chose to not re-sign with the team, signing a deal instead with the New Jersey Devils for a $4 million cap hit.

Many were expecting Jagr to try another team next season after the Devils’ disappointing loss. It would be a blow for New Jersey, who relied on Jagr’s surprising offense to replace Ilya Kovalchuk’s. Jagr’s 24 goals and 43 assists are the most points he’s had in a NHL season since his last season with the New York Rangers. As far as the Devils’ front office is concerned, Jagr’s an asset that they need to keep.

Which they will.

Devils fans, breathe a sigh of relief. Not only was your team trending in the right direction at the end of this past season, its top scorer will be back as well, it appears.
