Report: Paul Stastny has half the league interested in him

You may have heard a report that your favorite team has reached out to Paul Stastny. Don’t feel special as it appears half the league has reached out to him as well. A report from TSN, which was later analyzed by The Score, indicates that 15 teams contacted Stastny and his representatives as of Thursday. The report also states that the Colorado forward is seeking a salary north of the one he’s just finishing up.

The Avalanche reportedly offered a contract somewhere between $5 and $6 million. Stastny wants a deal which is no less than the $6.6 million a year contract he just enjoyed with the Avs. That demand may be fair as he’s a prized center in a fairly (so far) quiet market.

If we’re to believe the TSN report, here’s what we’ve learned:

1. Stastny wants $6.6 million or more a year. Odds are he wants a raise.
2. Colorado wants to keep his contract under $6 million, which means he may be walking.
3. At least 15 teams have inquired, but that number may be higher. Who wouldn’t check out the price?
4. St. Louis, Winnipeg and Chicago are confirmed to be among those interested.

Regardless of whether Stastny stays in Colorado or finds a new team, he’s going to be collecting a really big paycheck.
