Robin Lehner’s piranha are named after Ottawa beat writers

It’s always interesting seeing what sort of relationship a player has with the various local reporters in charge of covering their team. Most players and reporters seem to have a fairly respectful relationship, with both sides reaching a mutual agreement on boundaries and confidentiality. In other cases, reporters develop a pretty bad reputation for latching on to information or for hounding the players with persistent questioning.

Evidently, beat writers for the Ottawa Senators fall into the latter category.

Give credit to Lehner. He took the familiar and overused expression of referring to reporters as piranha and put an entirely new spin on it. It’s one thing to call a reporter a piranha. It’s another to call your piranha by the beat reporter’s name.

No word on which five reporters earned this distinction. Let the speculation begin.
