Tyler Seguin says he’s sick of losing

The Dallas Stars have underwhelmed through the first quarter of 2014-15. They’ve disappointed their fans after many believed they’d be competing as a top team in the West following some key moves over the summer. Tyler Seguin, like many Stars fans, is sick of losing.

Seguin spoke with reporters following a loss to the Detroit Red Wings:

“I’m just sick of losing. There’s no excuse for it. Losing sucks. The taste of losing is terrible. So, we’re going to move on and go home. Gotta be ready for a huge tilt there Saturday against the Canadiens.

It’s turnovers and it’s our coverage in our own end. It starts with our club, our team, the way we’re collapsing in our own zone, the way we’re competing, they way we’re having turnovers. We have to press the reset button here. It’s still a long year, but we definitely dug ourselves a hole.”

Seguin’s comments won’t make up for his team’s slow start, but it may be refreshing to some fans to see a star player opt to be blunt and truthful about the situation rather than trying to bury poor results under excuses.

At the same time, Seguin isn’t the player(s) fans hold responsible for the slow start. He has the most goals (19) and points (32) and the next closest player, Jamie Benn, trails both categories by nine. It’s obvious the Stars’ struggles are in no way a reflection of Seguin’s play and it’s obvious the Stars would be in a deeper hole without his efforts.
