Valtteri Filppula may play professional tennis

While most hockey players are enjoying their time off during the summer by playing golf or fishing, Valtteri Filppula has been playing tennis. Word is that the NHL forward is pretty good and has thought about turning pro. As seen in a report from the Helsinki Times, Filppula has been thinking about competing in some C-Class tennis competitions while the NHL is adjourned for the summer.

“I’ve been thinking about it. It could be nice.”

The article is difficult to read as Google Translator can only do so much with the original Finnish report, but it appears the Tampa Bay forward has at least considered competing in some tennis tournaments. Apparently he has worked on his grip and has a pretty nice backhand, but it’s unclear whether he’ll actually compete professionally.
