Dan Girardi hasn’t played since December 12th due to an injured knee. The Rangers have missed the defenseman’s willingness to block shots and ability to chip in on offense, but it sounds like he’ll be back in the lineup soon.
With his return nearing, Girardi spoke about his injury – which is actually a cracked kneecap – and provided a great quote which hockey fans should love. He’s going to play because he can’t hurt it any further.

Here’s another great example of the “hockey toughness” argument, but the quote also kind of defies logic. His knee is so banged up that there’s not much more he can do to screw it up … but what if he takes a shot or a slash to the injured kneecap? Wouldn’t that throw a wrench in the healing process?
Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see what Girardi is able to do while playing through the injury.
