Quebec and Las Vegas to officially discuss expansion with NHL’s executive committee

NHL expansion is getting a bit more official.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN wrote that while it’s unlikely a decision on expansion will come this month, two prospective NHL expansion locations, Quebec and Las Vegas, will officially present to the league’s board executive committee later this month.

Certainly, what will happen at the very least on Sept. 29 is that for the first time in an official capacity the Las Vegas and Quebec City ownership groups will present to the board’s executive committee ahead of the full board meeting. So that’s obviously significant. And no doubt that will be part of the league’s update to the full board as to where the applicants stand.

That’s a significant development.

He says the league may not quite be ready to make a recommendation on expansion as the process will take time. He predicts that whatever recommendation that’s made about expansion will come out of the board of governors meeting in December.

Either way, mark down September 29th on your calendar as there might be some huge news coming. Even if it’s nothing big, it’s another step toward the league expanding.

For those who have a Nordiques jersey in their basement gathering dust, it may be time to shake them off, and wear them with pride. This may actually be happening.
