Odds are pretty good you’ve already seen the Jordin Tootoo – Brad Malone fight which the hockey world is still buzzing about. That knockout aside, there were some other really good fights this week you might have missed.
5. Micheal Haley (SJ) vs Chris Stewart (ANH) – Dec. 4th
Stewart isn’t the offensive weapon he once was, but he still knows how to drop the mitts. It seems like he’s doing that more regularly this season and to mixed results. Here he gets a slight edge on Haley, but you could easily make the case that this one was a draw. Stewart still needs to step up offensively as the role of fighters continue to diminish around the league.
4. Michael Latta (WAS) vs Jacob Trouba (WPG) – Dec. 5th
There’s a lot going on in this clip so it’s kind of difficult to follow just the Latta-Trouba scrap. Look at all of that equipment on the ice! As for the fight itself, Trouba lands a few punches which spin Latta’s helmet, which is good enough to win this one.
3. Jordin Tootoo (NJ) vs Brad Malone (CAR) – Dec. 3rd
You knew this one was going to make the list. The term “knockout” is used a bit too often in hockey, but it’s perfectly deserved in this case. Tootoo drops Malone with one brutal punch and it’s still awesome to watch even on the 20th viewing.
2. Nick Foligno (CBJ) vs Nathan Beaulieu (MON) – Dec. 1st
Beaulieu swings wildly while Foligno is patient before unleashing his own barrage of punches. The more cautious approach approves to be the more fruitful approach as Foligno is the clear winner.
1. Kyle Chipchura (ARZ) vs Brendan Smith (DET) – Dec. 3rd
The Coyotes were about to head into the first intermission trailing by three goals and Chipchura wanted to rally the troops. His plan looked to be fairing pretty well as he landed several punches and was able to remove Smith’s helmet. Unfortunately, his stamina soon ran out and Smith caught Chipchura in the chin with a couple blows as the two stood exhausted. Let’s call it a draw because this one is so good.
