Bruce Boudreau calls out the Ducks for playing “stupid”

Anaheim Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau is cheesed off with his team’s performance thus far in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Ducks entered their opening-round series against the Nashville Predators as the heavy favorites. So far they haven’t delivered. Anaheim lost their second consecutive game, losing 3-2 on Sunday, to go down 2-0 in the series. Boudreau told reporters after the game, his team played stupid.

“We were just stupid out there,” Boudreau said in a postgame press conference. “The penalties we take sometimes are just so selfish and so dumb.”

Boudreau said he was disappointed in his team’s efforts, saying they were doing “stupid stuff,” which led to five penalties and just one power play.

“It was disappointing to us,” Boudreau said when asked about the team’s frustration level. “That’s why we didn’t get any power plays – because we’re doing stupid stuff and they’re just smiling and having a good old time.”

Boudreau’s got a point. On Sunday, the Ducks played undisciplined which played right into the hands of the Predators. If they continue to give Nashville ample opportunities on the power play it’s going to be tough for them to get back into the series.

The series isn’t over, but the Ducks will be at a disadvantage playing the next two games in Nashville. Anaheim is no stranger to overcoming adversity this season, as they overcame a horrendous start to lead the Pacific division with 103 points. If anybody can put a tough start behind them, it’s them. They can start a potential series comeback as Game 3 is set for Tuesday night.
