Bruins legend Ray Bourque arrested on DWI charge

It doesn’t really matter what age you are, drinking and driving is a terrible idea. You can be a nobody or you can be an NHL superstar, it doesn’t change the fact that you are putting someone else’s life in your hands. So when Ray Bourque was arrested late Friday night, it was a stark reminder that nobody is above the law.

First reported by Boston’s ABC affiliate WCVB, Bourque was arrested by Andover Police at 11:30 pm after reports of a two-vehicle crash in the area.

The police reported that they observed no injuries at the time of their arrival, but the hockey star was arrested for operating under the influence. Bourque posted bail that night and the police have not released info regarding a court date.

It will forever be odd when an athlete gets into trouble like this. Don’t they have the resources to take a taxi and drive home safe?  We as the media always pounce on these types of stories, to show the star that we once put on a pedestal at a very low point.

It just goes to show you that even a legend such as Bourque makes mistakes and can show a lack in judgment. It’ll just be a cautionary tale, in a long line of cautionary tales from pro athletes. Think before you drink.
