Evander Kane is also being sued over December sexual assault allegations

Legal drama continues to follow Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane.

This week, Kane pled not guilty to charges including non-criminal harassment stemming from an incident at a Buffalo bar. Now, on top of those charges, Kane is facing a civil suit in relation to sexual assault allegations from December. The victim claims Kane assaulted her badly enough for her to require surgery. The Buffalo News has details on the suit.

“The suit, dated July 1, claims that Kane met her in a downtown Buffalo bar on Dec. 26 and on Dec. 27 invited her to his hotel room at the Buffalo Marriott HarborCenter. In her suit, the Cheektowaga woman claims Kane assaulted her and caused physical injuries that forced her to undergo surgery. She alleged he caused her serious emotional distress.

“[The alleged victim] suffered ‘bodily injury including lacerations, extensive bleeding requiring multiple surgeries and blood transfusions, and serious emotional trauma,’ according to her affidavit filed in State Supreme Court.”

Kane didn’t face any charges following the incident, as Buffalo police decided against proceeding in the case. A civil suit can still be filed, regardless of charges, which is exactly what has happened. Kane intends on countersuing the alleged victim, claiming she’s making false claims.

Kane is now facing both criminal and civil action in two separate cases where the victims claim he assaulted them. It’s a bad look for the Buffalo Sabres organization and for Kane. No matter what the verdict is, Kane needs to grow up. His alleged actions are disgusting and his behavior, regardless, needs to improve.
