Nail Yakupov gives a tremendous non-answer on whether he wants out of Edmonton

Nail Yakupov should consider a political career after the non-answer he gave on Sunday during a media scrum regarding his future in Edmonton.

A reporter asked the 22-year-old Russian, “Are you okay coming back here next season, or would you prefer a change in the offseason?” Yakupov’s response was filled with a whole lot of nothing.

Yakupov discussed his love for the city of Edmonton.

“You know I had good years here of my life in Edmonton. I love the city, I love the people, I’m in the city and it was really great organization for me. I feel so comfortable in this city, it’s like my home. I play for the fans, you know. Try to leave everything here.”

And the media.

“I love you media guy too, thanks for coming tonight and today.”

He said he can’t predict his future because he’s not the GM.

But you know, it’s big business, I can’t really tell. I’m not going to make any moves this Summer because it’s not my job to do it. I’m pretty sure agents and the team are going to talk about it.

Yakupov finished off the scrum by reiterating he loved the Oilers and felt good with the organization.

“All I have to do is train, train hard, work hard and you know, improve some things and just keep looking forward. I can say I love this city, and I love the team who I play with. Even a lot a guys who I play with. But still, it’s really good atmosphere in the lockeroom – trainers, everyone. I feel really good here.”

Yakupov certainly expressed his appreciation for the city of Edmonton and the Oilers, but sideswiped the question of whether he wanted out beautifully. Not much has changed since he requested a trade earlier this season. The Oilers still stink and Yakupov’s long-term future is unclear. I’d bet Yakupov would welcome a trade, even if he doesn’t admit so publicly.
