Pending UFA Milan Lucic would like to “finish of my career” in LA

The Los Angeles Kings and Milan Lucic are talking an extension.

The power forward, who was acquired on draft day in a trade with the Boston Bruins, told Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times while extension talks have just begun, he wants to remain a member of the Kings for the rest of his career.

“Nothing to get excited about,” he said. “There’s been two or three little talks here and there. My plan is to remain a King and hopefully finish off my career here. Like I said, I go day by day and you never know what tomorrow is going to bring.”

“If I could look eight, nine, 10 years down the road, hopefully I play that long. I hope it is right here in LA and that something can get done and conversations can get picked up in the near future because I really have enjoyed my time this season and love being a King and living here in LA.”

Lucic has enjoyed a solid first season with the Kings, posting 13 goals and 19 assists in 51 games thus far. He’s played prominently with Tyler Toffoli, and has been centered with both Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar. He’s enjoying a career-best possession rate with a 59.1 Corsi for percentage, which is third in the NHL at least 500 minutes. Lucic has been a big part of Los Angeles leading the Pacific conference with a 31-17-3 record.

The pending UFA wants to stick around past this year.

“Hopefully, it can last more than one season.”
