Video: Predators fans show how they snuck huge catfish into the arena

Four Nashville Predators fans made things a bit fishy on Tuesday night, throwing 40 pounds of catfish on the ice at the Bridgestone Arena in advance of the team’s Game 3 matchup against the Anaheim Ducks.

The story is pretty wild. As WKRN-TV Nashville reports, four Nashville fans strapped over 40 pounds of catfish to their back and snuck it into the arena. Surprisingly they weren’t caught, as their Predators jerseys covered it up.

When they got in, right as the game was about to start, they tossed the heavy fish onto the ice.

The fans documented the whole endeavor.

The stinky catfish ain’t cheap. The price is around $1.14 per pound, so the fans likely threw away around $45 to complete the stunt – plus whatever it cost for their tickets.

The fans’ throw isn’t a new tradition. Fans have shown their support in the past by hurling them onto the ice, much like how the Red Wings throw octopus.

Austin Casselman, one of the men to sneak the catfish in, said he did it to rile Predators fans up.

“At Bridgestone, it’s a loud environment,” Casselman told WKRN-TV Nashville. “You’ll see opposing coaches say they don’t like playing here and there’s nothing like getting the fans going from the beginning,” said Austin Casselman.

Unfortunately for the catfish throwing fans, their tactic didn’t inspire the Predators to victory as they fell 3-0 to the Ducks.  Still, it’s great to see Predators fans carry on the tradition, even if it’s a smelly, somewhat costly one.
