The University of Denver hockey team traveled to Kalamazoo for an upcoming game. But, there was just one little problem – their sticks didn’t make the trip with them. Without their most important piece of equipment, the team still practiced, pretending they all had their sticks as they ran through some drills.

When Joe Finley was unable to secure a job in the NHL and decided to take his talents abroad, it seemed pretty likely that he’d fade into hockey obscurity. Finley joined HIFK in the Finnish Liiga prior to 2016-17 and he got the hockey community buzzing for a monster blindside hit on Michel Miklík.

Phil Kessel has had a really strong year, but even the best players in the NHL can get frustrated from time to time. Kessel showed some of that frustration in the funniest of ways, grumbling and making faces on the Penguins’ bench.

Patrik Laine was on the receiving end of one of the biggest hits of the season courtesy of Jake McCabe. Laine was entering the neutral zone and trying to corral a puck when he committed a cardinal sin in hockey – he had his head down. McCabe stepped up and delivered an absolute monster hit.

Cory Schneider had a night to forget on Friday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, getting pulled in the first period after allowing three goals on just five shots. One of those goals was of the extremely embarrassing variety as he played the puck too slowly and was left watching Connor Brown score an easy goal.

ECHL goalie Alex Nedeljkovic had a pretty huge night for the Florida Everblades on Friday night. With Nedeljkovic’s holding on to a 4-3 lead, the goalie took his opportunity to score the first goalie goal in Everblades history by firing a puck down the ice at an empty net.

Viktor Arvidsson may have closed out 2016 with one of the best goals of the year. During a stretch of 4-on-4 play against the St. Louis Blues, Arvidsson went between his legs to get around Jay Bouwmeester and made Jake Allen look silly to give the Nashville Predators a 3-0 lead.
