Babcock says Maple Leafs fans should “find something else to do” at the trade deadline

Toronto Maple Leafs fans probably shouldn’t expect too much from the team during the trade deadline. Mike Babcock personally warned fans that the team isn’t planning on being active and even mentioned that Leafs fans should find other things to do during the festivities of the deadline instead of waiting for the club to make a move.

Babcock’s comments, as seen in the Toronto Sun, were designed to calm impatient fans, but should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

“If anyone’s looking for us to be the news on deadline day, I’d find something else to do,” Babcock said, as he talked about the likelihood of “going forward” with the roster as presently constituted.

As mentioned above, take Babcock’s comments with a big grain of salt. The Maple Leafs aren’t expected to make any major moves, but that can change in a hurry if the right offer comes the team’s way. It’s unlikely they’ll be one of the big movers/shakers at the deadline, but a minor move is certainly in the realm of possibility.

With the Leafs on the verge of a playoff spot, it’d be wise for Babcock and the rest of the front office to try and add a piece or two, but they don’t want to do anything major which could derail all of the progress the organization has made over the past couple years.
