Peter Forsberg praises McDavid: “He’s better at everything than I was”

Peter Forsberg is a big fan of Connor McDavid.

The Colorado Avalanche Hall of Famer spoke at the 100 Best NHLers announcement in Los Angeles, throwing huge praise at the Edmonton Oilers superstar. Forsberg, who scored 885 points in 708 games, said he wished he could have played like McDavid, claiming “he’s better at everything than I was.”

“I wish I could say Connor McDavid, but he’s better at everything than I was,” Forsberg told Matt Larkin of The Hockey News. “He skates faster. He sees the game. But I really enjoy seeing him play. He’s everywhere on the ice, and he’s making his team win. If I could start over I’d like to be like him.”

The 43-year-old’s career was cut short due to injuries, but Forsberg remains one of the best setup men in NHL history. There’s a reason he made the top-100. To call McDavid better at “everything” is about as high of praise that can be offered. It’s one of the best calling the NHL’s current best player phenomenal.

McDavid is special. He’s only 20-years-old and he’s already the NHL’s most dangerous player. Forsberg was amazing but, he’s right. McDavid is on the Lemieux-Gretzky-Crosby tier, while Forsberg – a decorated star in his own right – is a tier behind. That doesn’t make his accomplishments mean anything less.

McDavid is amazing. Forsberg recognized this and threw huge praise his way. There’s nothing wrong with that.
