Trevor Linden doesn’t want to rebuild Canucks because it wouldn’t be fair to the Sedins

Trevor Linden’s loyalty knows no bounds.

[link_box id=”22277″ site_id=”17″ layout=”link-box-third” alignment=”alignright”]The Vancouver Canucks sit near the bottom of the Western Conference with 11 wins in 25 games. The Canucks have steered far away from a rebuild despite their aging roster and lackluster farm system suggesting a needed change.

So, what’s preventing the rebuild? Linden, the Canucks president, says it would be unfair to the Sedins.

“We have Daniel and Henrik Sedin here, who are very important to this organization and icons in the city,” Linden told Luke Fox of Sportsnet.ca. They’re not going anywhere. I don’t know how I walk into the room and tell these guys, “Strip it down.” I’m not sure it’s fair to these guys. There’s different circumstances, be it in Toronto or Carolina or Vancouver, that require different routes. It’s not perfect, but I’m encouraged by the young players we’ve introduced, and we’ve got some young prospects.”

The Canucks have accumulated a solid prospect base with Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser, and Olli Juolevi, but, beyond the main core, there’s not much to write home about. Linden’s loyalty to his former Canuck teammates is concerning. The Canucks need to be stripped down as their current core is aging and has no future. Vancouver is stuck in place as long as Linden doesn’t want to rebuild to spare the Sedin’s feelings late in their career. He needs to place the franchise’s future ahead of his soon-to-be-retired stars.

He’s setting the team back with each season he wastes.
