Video: High elbow from Gryba leads to a lot of awkwardness

When it comes to losing, no one knows more about it in within the past decade than the Edmonton Oilers. Most of their memorable moments have taken place at the Draft rather than on the ice, so it should come as no surprise that once again the Oilers are in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

I can neither confirm or deny that Gryba caused the bald spot on Jimmy Hayes’ head. Hayes immediately collapses after the high hit but is savvy enough to look over at the ref and say with his eyes: “Did you see that crap?” Gryba somehow in the process of this elbow hits himself in the face with the stick. If he sold it a little more he may have gotten a high sticking call.

Last but certainly not least, look at all of the inexplicable Bruins fans in Rexall Place reacting to the hit. I don’t know whether they are actually reacting to the hit or the fact that John Scott doesn’t want to be in the All Star game. Either way their expressions say pure disgust.

After all of this though the Oilers did win 3-2 in a shootout so it isn’t ALL bad in Alberta.
