While the main focus of this blog is boxing in the professional ranks I want to take a moment provide some information on the Texas State Silver Gloves Tournament which begins today. For the past couple of years Barney Flores of Barney & Me Boxing Club has hosted the annual event at his gym and on his dime. Flores is a truly one of boxing’s good guys and offers at risk youth in the north Dallas suburbs a avenue away from the trouble that lurks for young impressionable youth. I have had the pleasure of knowing Barney for a couple of years and strongly suggest dropping by his gym this weekend to catch some great amateur boxing action.
