Boxing doesn’t know exactly where “across the street” is, apparently (photo via). But oddly enough, its two major network players, HBO and Showtime, seem to excel in scheduling shows across the street from one another.
It was the last fight weekend of a particularly weak 2014 in boxing, so it was fitting that well over a dozen notable fighters stepped through the ropes, yet only a small handful (if that) of the match ups were anything but a hologram.
Rather than wasting an entire post listing the names that fought in the last week, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and TQBR’s Patrick Connor run the gauntlet on Queensberry Rules Radio. From the bothersome “Night of Champions” ESPN card featuring Antonio Tarver and Austin Trout, to the competing HBO and Showtime cards that had Tim Bradley vs. Diego Chaves and Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander, respectively… It’s all on the chopping block, in one way or another.
