My man David Lemieux (pictured) is back after getting beaten down by Gennady Golovkin last year. That’s good news, because the dude is exciting and pretty game. In action elsewhere is the husk of Zab Judah. Guillermo Rigondeaux was meant to be fighting the outclassed James Dickens on the other side of the pond in what might have been an audition for a Carl Frampton fight, but the rabble that promotes him didn’t get him a visa in time. Sigh.
David Lemieux vs James De La Rosa, Saturday, Montreal. Boxing’s faux-hawk numero uno returns to against De La Rosa, who you might remember beat the desiccated remains of Alfredo Angulo before losing to Hugo Centeno, Jr. last year. It’s a soft-ish touch considering how easily De La Rosa was hurt by Centeno (and how much harder Lemieux hits) but quite respectable for a comeback fight.
Zab Judah vs Josh Torres, Saturday, CBS Sports Net, Las Vegas. I dunno man, what can you say about this? Judah hasn’t been in the ring in two years, and he certainly wasn’t at his best then. Still, Torres is a journeyman and if Judah wants to keep fighting it’s probably better for it to be against guys like this than legit contenders.
