Errol Spence And The Rest Of The Week’s Boxing Schedule

It’s a pretty light schedule. Unlike one of Friday’s combatants, who weighs more than Shaquille O’Neal did early in his NBA career but is about seven inches shorter.

  • Errol Spence vs Leonard Bundu, NBC, Sunday, Brooklyn. Spence, a brilliant young welterweight, stays busy in a rare Sunday TV fight. Bundu gave the more accomplished Keith Thurman some trouble with his awkward rhythm, but still lost widely on the cards. Spence could make a statement by knocking Bundu out. Our bet is he does.
  • Jarrell Miller vs Fred Kassi, Showtime, Friday, Rochester N.Y. Miller is a giant heavyweight prospect. He weighed in at 296 pounds in advance of this one. He’s knocked almost everyone out he’s faced so far, but there are no noteworthy names on the list. He looks half-decent, but also half-terrible. Kassi gets closer to giving him a name opponent. He has been sturdy against every “name” opponent he has faced, save Amir Mansour.
  • Vyacheslav Shabranskyy vs Oscar Riojas, Estrella TV, Friday, Los Angeles. Shabranskyy nearly got a shot at Andre Ward but the sides couldn’t work out a deal. He topped Yunieski Gonzalez a couple bouts ago in a close decision, so the light heavyweight’s consolation prize is… this. Riojas should be easy work.
  • The Rest. One of the top strawweights in the world, Katsunari Takayama, fights for the first time in 2016 Saturday… There’s a beIN Sports Espanol show Saturday.
