The Week’s Boxing Schedule, Featuring Danny Garcia And Robert Guerrero

Boxing is picking up in 2016 where it left off in 2015 — with fights of questionable quality and possible hidden gems. The “biggest” fight of the week, Danny Garcia vs Robert Guerrero on “Premier Boxing Champions” on Fox, definitely falls into the former category, but there’s a few of the latter to read on about too.

Danny Garcia vs Robert Guerrero, Saturday, Fox/Fox Deportes, Los Angeles. The first fight on this card isn’t much of an attraction. Garcia is one of the top welterweights in the world, while Guerrero hasn’t won a fight convincingly since 2012. Yes, he’s been in battles, but of late they’ve been with a lower and lower quality of opponent. The undercard, however, offers promise, with welterweight contenders Sammy Vasquez and Aaron Martinez set to do battle. Both guys come to fight. The card also features a crossroads heavyweight bout between former Olympian Dominic Breazeale and Amir Mansour, who might still be dangerous at 43. Breazeale can be really sloppy and never looks to be in particularly good condition, so you never know.

Jamal James vs Javier Molina, Tuesday, Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes, Los Angeles. A potentially decent fight on a PBC prospect show. James, a Minneapolis welterweight, is long and a good jabber but still lacks polish. Molina is tough, comes forward and punches in combinations. He’ll be a good test.

Rob Brant vs DeCarlo Perez, Friday, Showtime, Tucson. Classic ShoBox card with undefeated Minnesota middleweight prospect Brant moving up the ranks.

Jose Zepeda vs Jose Lopez, Saturday, beIN Sports Español, Mexical. Mexican lightweight prospect/contender Zepeda looks to get back on his winning way after a couple of strange bouts (he withdrew from a world title shot due to a shoulder injury and had his last fight ruled a no contest after he was cut in the 1st round). Lopez is no pushover, so it could be interesting.
