Dortmund center back Marc Bartra was the only player injured in the explosion that rocked his team’s bus earlier this week. The 26-year-old required immediate surgery to heal a fractured wrist.

Days later, Bartra is reportedly feeling much better, but he hasn’t totally shaken off what he called “the longest and hardest 15 minutes of my life.”

Bartra posted a lengthy message to Instagram on Friday morning, in which he thanked his family for visiting him in the hospital in the midst of his harrowing ordeal.

They are my everything, the reason I struggle to overcome obstacles and this has been the worst of my life, an experience I would not want anyone in this world. The pain, the panic and the uncertainty of not knowing what was going on, or how long it would last … were the longest and hardest 15 minutes of my life.

Though we don’t know the full motivation behind the attack on the Dortmund bus, German police have arrested a suspect with “Islamist links.”

In his Instagram post, Barta pled for peace and said he was proud of his injury.

These days when I look at my wrist, swollen and badly wound, you know what I feel? Pride. I look at her proudly, thinking that all the damage they wanted to do to us on Tuesday stayed in this.

Barta said he wrote such a long post to “unburden” himself, as he struggles to come to grips with the attack. There’s no word yet when he might be back on the pitch, but it sounds like he’s headed for a full recovery, physically at least.
