Marseille defender Patrice Evra received a red card during Thursday’s Europa League match with Guimaraes before the opening whistle even sounded.

Before the match, Evra kicked a fan in the head, doing his best impression of MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop.

This picture of Evra’s kick is pretty incredible, as well.

The kick apparently wasn’t even aimed at an opposing fan – per ESPN FC, the kick was thrown towards a Marseille fan

During warm-ups, Evra was involved in an argument with some of Marseille’s own travelling fans who were singing negative chants aimed at him.

When some of the Marseille fans began approaching the pitch, the rest of the Marseille team ran over, and Evra aimed a high kick over the advertising boards towards a fan standing on the other side.

Evra joined Marseille in January on a free transfer after spending two and a half seasons with Juventus. He’s made just two appearances for them this season, and following this incident, I doubt he’ll make many more.

Former Manchester United forward Eric Cantona received an eight month suspension after he kicked a fan at Crystal Palace.

Cantona spent a couple of seasons at Marseille in the late 80s and early 90s before eventually joining Manchester United, while Evra spent nine seasons at United before eventually joining Marseille.

Marseille came into Matchweek 4 of Europa League action second in Group I with 6 points. They sit fourth in the Ligue 1 table with 21 points.
