On the night before Mexico were to face Germany in Moscow, a Russian taxi ran on the sidewalk and hit a group of people that included Mexican fans.

The video shows the cab jumping the curb, speeding up, hitting about a dozen people before crashing and then running off after a whole bunch of people wanted to beat the crap out of the person. The driver was eventually arrested by police.

According to CNBC, eight people were injured while the Mexican Embassy in Moscow confirmed that two of the injured were Mexican citizens and Mexico fans who are there for the World Cup. Those two reportedly have “minor injuries” and are in stable condition.

Moscow police believe that the cab driver lost control of the car, which I find a bit hard to believe. Unless the driver had a medical condition that caused them to turn and accelerate from a stopped position and drive into a bunch of people. Given Russia’s notorious reputation for rather insane dash cam car crashes, it’s much more believable that the driver was stuck behind a few cars, didn’t want to be in traffic and decided to drive on the sidewalk. And then planned to drive away if their car wasn’t stopped and a couple people weren’t trying to get in the car to beat the person up. That would be my theory.
