When St. Totteringham’s Day was first conceived, it was more to make fun of Tottenham because they could never be better than Arsenal in the Premier League table. Arsenal had been higher than Spurs since 1995 and pulled out a late season surge to pass Tottenham on the final day last year.

That was then and this is now. The balance of power had been turning last year, now it has officially shifted. In a 2-0 victory in the final North London Derby at White Hart Lane, the day Arsenal fans dreaded has come. St. Totterignham’s Day has been cancelled and Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this season.

Despite a 0-0 halftime score, Tottenham had been in control from the start. Multiple chances had just squeaked past the goal and that at least inspired a faint hope of confidence among Arsenal. Maybe they felt they could squeeze a goal off a counterattack or a penalty or something. That hope was dashed in a minute span as Dele Alli scored in the 55th minute and then Harry Kane won and scored a penalty to seal the 2-0 victory.

As Tottenham is unable to gain any points after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Everton earlier today, the margin remains four points between 1st and 2nd. Arsenal, and their missed opportunity to pick up points on the drawing Manchester teams today, remained in 6th and despite a game in hand, are five points behind Manchester United and six points behind Liverpool and Manchester City.

While it has been slowly happening for a while, it seems Tottenham and Arsenal have finally completed their switch to the other. For the past 20 years, it was Tottenham who didn’t have the talent or the youth players or the management to have success while Arsenal had the brand new stadium and the talent and the management to be one of the most revered and respected teams in Europe.

Now, the once revolutionary Arsene Wenger and his extraordinary Arsenal career has become a veritable punchline as everyone but Stan Kroenke seem to hate him at this point. And even though they’re in the FA Cup Final, Arsenal is probably not making the Champions League and have nothing positive to hang their hat on. On the other end, Tottenham is going to have a brand new stadium, a Champions League spot next year and currently have the better manager, players, youth development and seem to be more willing to spend money for players than Arsenal. Not to mention, Spurs still have a chance at the Premier League title this year and if they don’t lose anyone this summer, have a great chance at the title next year.

That’s the only thing Tottenham is missing to fully be better than Arsenal. Arsenal fans’ only thing on Tottenham at this point is a trophy. This current Tottenham squad hasn’t hoisted a trophy of any kind and the team hasn’t won a title since the EFL Cup in 2008. It’s getting more and more likely they will win a trophy within the next few years and if they do, Arsenal fans will have nothing to say about their rival as they languish in the Europa League and have to travel to Belarus to play a team named FC Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino and worry about Everton surpassing them.
