The Warriors got a big win in Houston to set up Wednesday’s marquee matchup with the Spurs, Lonzo Ball (unsurprisingly) said he thinks he’s better than Markelle Fultz, and one of the most impressive streaks in sports came to an end. Let’s dive in to the Wednesday Cheat Sheet.

The Warriors and the Spurs meet once again with the No. 1 seed in the West on the line

The Warriors got a big win Tuesday on the road against the Rockets behind 32 points from Stephen Curry. Now comes a chance for an even bigger one Wednesday.

Golden State heads to San Antonio, and while a loss would tighten up the race for the No. 1 seed i the West, a win would all but clinch the top spot for the Warriors. Currently, Golden State has a 2.5-game lead, but San Antonio has already clinched the tiebreaker should they tie for the No. 1 seed. The Spurs won the first two meetings this year to take the season series.

After Wednesday’s meeting, the Spurs have a tougher schedule than the Warriors, although Golden State’s is not a cakewalk either.

San Antonio heads to Oklahoma City and Utah before the end of the year, and it will also host the Jazz, the Grizzlies and the Clippers. Meanwhile, the Warriors still have to face Houston, Washington and Utah, but all at home.

So if the Spurs lose and fall 3.5 games back, they’re staring at the No. 2 seed. But a win would pull them within one game in the loss column, and that will make for a really fun last two weeks of the regular season.

Lonzo Ball thinks he’s better than Markelle Fultz because…what else would he think?

This is what I would call “non-news.” A radio host asked UCLA one-and-done Lonzo Ball to compare himself to Washington one-and-done Markelle Fultz, and of course Ball said he’d choose himself. Sure, Ball could have given a Derek Jeter answer, which is to say a non-answer.

But he answered honestly.

“Markelle’s a great player, but I feel I’m better than him,” said Ball, who led the Bruins to a pair of blowout victories over Fultz’s Huskies this season.

“I think I can lead a team better than him,” Ball added. “Obviously he’s a great scorer — he’s a great player, so I’m not taking that away from him.”

Here’s where LaVar Ball, Lonzo’s father, has really hurt his son’s image. While Lonzo is by all accounts a pretty laid back guy who just wants to win basketball games, LaVar is a loudmouth who said his son was better than Steph Curry and would play only for the Lakers.

It’s not like Lonzo went out of his way to say he’s better than Fultz. And it’s not like he was talking crap about Fultz. He even went out of his way to call Fultz “a great player.”

But with the ego his dad has built around him, the media were quick to make a big headline out of his comments.

Fultz is the consensus No. 1 pick right now, but Ball is not far behind. It wouldn’t be shocking to see either guy get picked first.

With UCLA’s season ending in the Sweet 16, Ball averaged 14.6 points, 6 rebounds and 7.6 assists during his freshman season. In obscurity, Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 boards and 5.9 dimes.

The Red Wings will miss the playoffs for the first time in 25 years

What a wild time we live in when the Lions are Detroit’s bright spot. While Matthew Stafford brought the Lions to the playoffs (where they were promptly dispatched by the Seahawks), the Tigers missed the MLB playoffs and will have a tough time making a run again this year, the Pistons have fallen 2.5 games out of the NBA playoffs, and now the Red Wings will miss the NHL playoffs for the first time in 25 years.

The Red Wings lost 4-1 to Carolina on Tuesday, officially eliminating them. We’ll see how far they drop in the last few weeks of the season. They are currently last in the Atlantic Division and second-to-last in the Eastern Conference.

Quick hits

James Johnson dunk

—James Johnson destroyed Marcus Morris with this dunk, and then the Heat won on a buzzer-beater to stay a game up on the Bulls and put a major dent in the Pistons’ playoff hopes.

—In other Eastern Conference heartbreak news, the Pacers fouled Ricky Rubio, a 31 percent 3-point shooter, on a three with 3.4 seconds left. He made all three free throws to give the Timberwolves a 115-114 win, and Indiana is now in legitimate danger of missing the playoffs with only a two-game cushion.

—Is Tom Brady really going to play 6-7 more years?

—Las Vegas couldn’t afford giving $14 million to schools but will give the Raiders $750 million.

—Raiders players and staff will also get a discount at a Vegas brothel.

—Marquette King continued his run as the coolest punter in the NFL, punting a cake for quarterback Derek Carr’s birthday.

—The 76ers reached their ticket sales goal, so their senior vice president of sales got Ben Simmons shaved into his head.

—March Madness always leads to a few fun bets. Former Kentucky guard Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had to wear UNC gear to the joy of teammate and former Tar Heel Marvin Williams.

And Padres catcher Austin Hedges, a UCLA fan, had to show up to spring training in full Kentucky gear.

—Spiders will rule the world one day.

—We documented how Duquesne’s coaching search was one giant, steaming mess. Well, the Dukes finally made a hire, and they got a good one in Akron’s Keith Dambrot.

—But what will Dambrot’s departure mean for Akron, one of the most consistent mid-major programs over the last decade?

—After winning in Tuesday’s semifinals, Georgia Tech and TCU will face each other Thursday in the NIT championship game.
