Don Cheadle has been trying to make a movie about legendary jazz artist Miles Davis for nearly 10 years. Finally, the actor decided to just do it himself, writing, directing and starring in the film — with some help from many, many friends contributing to an Indiegogo campaign.
The crowd-funded project, titled Miles Ahead, begins filming this week in Cincinnati. To kick off the production, a photo of Cheadle as Davis was released to Entertainment Weekly, which also has an interview with the star. Take a look.
According to Cheadle, the film will cover a 10-year period, beginning at the end of Davis’ “quiet period,” when he didn’t perform or record for five years. That coincides with the musician’s relationship with his first wife, Frances Taylor Davis. Ewan McGregor, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emayatzy Corinealdi are also set to star in the film.
You can still contribute to Miles Ahead‘s Indiegogo campaign until Friday. As of this writing, it’s raised 84 percent of its $325,000 goal.
