Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James was a hugely popular novel, originating as Twilight fan fiction before being repurposed into more original material. It first sold as an e-book and was then published by Vintage Books, going on to top best-seller lists and sell millions of copies.
The natural next step was to adapt such a popular novel into a movie. But will Fifty Shades of Grey do as well in theaters as it did in bookstores? Reading erotic fiction in private is different from going out to the cinema to watch with others. After seeing the trailer for the film, perhaps more fans of the book — and those who didn’t read it — will be intrigued.
Is this trailer is meant for those who read the book or those who didn’t? Were key scenes hinted at that readers will anticipate being dramatized on screen? Do actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson embody the characters from the book? Or were you left wondering what this is all about?
Fifty Shades of Grey is set for a Feb. 14 release.
