In tonight’s Rockies-Marlins game at Marlins Park, Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins hit a titanic grand slam off of Rockies starter Jamie Moyer. The homer smashed into the scoreboard in left field (which is mounted onto a wall of the stadium), and actually knocked out a handful of lights.
The homer went an estimated 438 feet. To left field. I mean, good god. What a mammoth blast. Stanton’s grand slam capped off a string of six straight runs by the Marlins in the third and fourth innings, and gave them a 6-4 lead over Moyer (who was pulled a batter after allowing the homer) and the Rockies. The homer was Stanton’s ninth of the year, and he now has an .879 OPS on the season. Perhaps even funnier was the fact that he was hitting BEHIND Austin Kearns in the Marlins lineup tonight. Yeah, that’s something that should pretty much never happen, especially in 2012.
