Alex Rodriguez

Brian Cashman goes off on Alex Rodriguez

We brought you a story yesterday about Alex Rodriguez being cleared to play in rehab games on July 1st. Well, a happy Rodriguez tweeted about the news this evening, and this apparently didn't sit too well with Yankees GM Brian Cashman, who went off while talking with ESPN New York.

"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will]," Cashman told ESPN New York. "Alex should just shut the f— up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now."

"He has not been cleared by our doctors to play in rehab games yet," he said. "He's getting closer, there's no doubt about it, but we don't have a date for him to start playing games yet. It could be July 1. It could also be July 5, or maybe June 25."

It sounds like Cashman isn't too pleased with his controversial, highly-paid third baseman flocking to the internet to update people on his injury status, but people being angry with Rodriguez is about par for the course these days. Maybe what I said yesterday about A-Rod being a huge upgrade for New York's offense doesn't matter because he'd be a cancer in the clubhouse. We'll see.
