No concussion for Giancarlo Stanton after beaning

After a very scary incident on Wednesday where he took a pitch to the head from prospect Jose Fernandez, Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton is doing OK and wasn't diagnosed with a concussion following the incident. He expects to play in Saturday's Spring Training opener against the Cardinals.

Initially after he was hit, Stanton said he felt "loopy", and his peripheral vision was blurry, which is obviously not a good sign. After a few hours, his vision returned to normal and he seemed to be in good spirits at Marlins camp on Thursday.

If Stanton were to miss any significant time for Miami this year, their games would have no redeeming qualities. He's the lone superstar left for that franchise, and to borrow a popular phrase, is the straw that stirs the drink. What are the Marlins without Giancarlo Stanton? Nothing.Jeffrey Loria must be exhaling right about now, not just because Stanton is healthy, but because his wallet won't be taking a hit with his meal ticket out of the picture to start 2013.
