TSS Power 16 Poll After Week 11

Wow, what a weekend! With very few matchups between top 25 teams, many expected week 11 to be a relatively uneventful one. However, thanks to upsets by Pittsburgh, Iowa, and Georgia, the College Football Playoff standings will look much differently this week than it did last week.

So how will these shockers impact our rankings? Be sure to check below for the TSS Power 16 Poll after week 11.

9 West Virginia 28
10 Utah 27

Notes and Observations

  • As always, remember that these standings are fluid, and will change from week-to-week.
  • Alabama was a unanimous choice for the top spot this week. The Crimson Tide is playing better than any team in the country right now, and are also playing with a two-game cushion over the rest of college football.
  • Ohio State moves up to No. 2 after destroying Maryland 62-3. However, Michigan’s loss could actually prevent the Buckeyes from winning the Big Ten East, which begs the question, “is it time for a non-division champion to play in the College Football Playoff?
  • We chose not to punish Clemson and Michigan for dropping close games against unranked opponents. While some would argue that both should be ranked lower, we’re rewarding both teams for taking care of top 10 opponents earlier in the season.
  • On the other hand, Washington dropped to No. 6 after losing 26-13 to USC. Unlike the other upsets, this game wasn’t close, as the Trojans took control of the contest from the opening whistle. As a result of this decisive victory, USC re-enters the rankings at No. 14 this week.
  • Washington State also entered the poll, debuting at No. 15.
  • West Virginia made the biggest move in this week’s standings, vaulting from No. 14 to No. 7. The Mountaineers could move even higher with a “W” over Oklahoma on Saturday night.
  • Penn State remains the most polarizing team in the rankings. While a few of our voters have the Lions as high as No. 8, one voter left them off the ballot altogether. The Nittany Lions will have a hard time changing that voter’s mind with only games against Rutgers and Michigan State remaining.
