Report: Jacob Eason taking over first string reps this week

The UGA quarterback battle has been fairly even so far during fall camp. Grayson Lambert has performed as expected. Bryce Ramsey has performed better than some expected. Jacob Eason has shown some flashes of brillance and some proof that he’s still a true freshman. Now it looks like the coaching staff is going to really gauge what Eason can do this week…..

UGASports.com (pay link) is reporting that Jacob Eason will be taking over the first string reps this week in order to see just how much he can handle.

Here’s more from Marc Weiszer of the Athens-Banner Herald:

The change, the Bulldogs’ coach said in an interview Wednesday morning on 680 AM, is that each of the candidates to start at quarterback–Greyson Lambert, Brice Ramsey and Jacob Eason–aren’t being rotated as much with each group, meaning the first, second and third-team offense.

“We’re continuing to work each guy with each group, just not doing as much of it,” Smart said. “Before it was all equal. It’s not exactly equal. It’s going to be more a situation where every guy gets to go with each group but not at the same reps.”

UGASports.com reported Wednesday that Eason, the heralded freshman, would be getting the snaps with the first team for the rest of this week in “an effort to gauge what Eason can do with the first team so the coaches can make a more informed decision when the time comes.”

It looks like we are going to know a lot more about the status of Georgia’s QB race after this week.
