James Harrison is one of the most feared defensive players in the NFL. He consistently levels ball carriers, often resulting in fines levied by the NFL. He's a great 3-4 linebacker that demands top dollar for his services.
The problem is, no one is willing to pay him.
According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, James Harrison is drawing no interest whatsoever in free agency. The 34-year-old linebacker was cut by the Steelers due to his huge cap hit of about $10 million for 2013. Harrison and Pittsburgh tried to negotiate a lower salary, allowing Harrison to continue playing in Pittsburgh, but those talks were fruitless, and the Steelers were forced to cut Harrison.
Now it appears that Harrison should have taken the Steelers' lower offer. Peter King says, "It seems if he wants to play this year, he'll have to do it for less than half of what he was supposed to make for the Steelers. He should have taken the cut the Steelers were offering."
At a time when teams are constantly trying to stay young and cheap, James Harrison's reputation as a great linebacker doesn't seem to be enough to result in a big pay day. Harrison has a lot of wear and tear on his body, and it makes teams very cautious about signing him to a big contract. It would be truly surprising if James Harrison is not on a football field in 2013, but the amount he'll be making will be way lower than he had expected.
