Well that didn't take long.
The injury lists are already starting to feature some very prominent names after a rocky start to training camp for a select few teams. While training camp marks the true beginning-of-the-end of the offseason, this year it also marked a number of serious injuries.
Eagles wide receiver got us off to a rough start by tearing the ACL in his right knee, meaning he could miss the entire 2013 season, according to Yahoo Sports. Maclin was injured in a non-contact drill and required a cart to help him off the field.
Next up was Browns offensive lineman Ryan Miller. Miller suffered a concussion and was taken off the field by ambulance in yesterday’s practice. The Browns have since said that Miller has been released from the hospital, but with concussions, it’s difficult to say exactly how long Miller will be out of commission.
Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta will miss the entire season according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Pitta suffered a dislocated hip, sidelining him for the foreseeable future. The rough part of this injury is that Pitta was going into a contract year with the Ravens, and even with a clean bill of health, the Ravens won’t be taking a huge financial risk in re-signing him if that’s what they decide to do.
Finally, Chargers linebacker Jonas Mouton, who was expected to compete for a reserve position with the team, also suffered a torn ACL, and he has been waived by the team. If he clears waivers, and we expect he will, the Chargers have said he will be placed on injured reserve.
So, it’s back to football, which includes the unfortunate business of dealing with injuries. Some big-name players have already went down with long-term injuries, and that’s not a story line that will go away as training camp continues.
