The end of the college football regular season means we’ve arrived at our next destination: Transfer portal season. And if Monday is an indication, we’re off and running. Baylor Bears quarterback Blake Shapen has made a move into the portal, hoping for greener grass ahead.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news of Shapen’s intention to enter the portal.

“Baylor QB Blake Shapen tells ESPN that he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal,” Thamel posted. “He has at least one year of eligibility remaining and will be immediately eligible. He started 23 games for the Bears and is looking to compete for a starting job at a winning program.”

Thamel reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

In three seasons at Baylor, Shapen threw for 5,574 yards on a mark of 479 for 752 on pass attempts. That was good enough for a career completion percentage of 63.7 percent. He threw for a career-high 2,790 yards in 2022 with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This season, Shapen went 184-for-298, completing 61.7 percent of his passes, and threw for 2,188 yards, 13 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Baylor didn’t make too much noise this season though, so Shapen wants to try and take his abilities where he can win. The good news for him is that veteran quarterbacks, no matter if it’s in college or the NFL, will always be sought after. So he should be able to find plenty of suitors in the portal.
