The Los Angeles Chargers are in a cap crunch. But they were able to get two of their star defensive players to reduce their contracts, including one who made a big move Thursday.

After the Chargers recently got Khalil Mack to restructure his contract, LA also got EDGE Joey Bosa to do the same.

ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Thursday afternoon.

“Pro Bowl DE Joey Bosa restructured his contract to remain with the Los Angeles Chargers,” Schefter said. Schefter posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Bosa and Mack are integral pieces to the puzzle on defense for LA. So, keeping them around was probably imperative for first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh. In eight years with the Chargers, Bosa amassed 67.0 career sacks and 321 total tackles. He’s posted four double-digit sack seasons in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021.

LA has had to make some moves this offseason to try and get back under the salary cap. They parted ways with wide receiver Mike Williams and saw Austin Ekeler leave the team to go to the Washington Commanders. So they’ll be looking a bit different this year, but they’ll at least have two of their key defensive pieces around.

It’s good news for the Chargers and Bosa and Mack, who’ll be able to just stay right where they’re at and play for a new coaching staff and with a new identity.
