NFL tight end Hayden Hurst is going through a traumatic injury. According to his father, the Carolina Panthers tight end was recently diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia.

Hurst’s father, Jerry, made the announcement on his personal X account.

“@haydenrhurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist as a result of the hit he took in Chicago on November 9,” Hurst’s father posted. Hurst pled for prayers and said it would be a “slow recovery” for Hurst and his timetable to return is uncertain.

Amid a recent rise in head injury awareness and prevention attempts, it’s horrifying to see this happen to someone. So, thoughts, prayers, and best wishes on a speedy recovery to Hayden Hurst. That can’t be emphasized enough.

Certainly, the best thing that you can hope for now is that Hurst is studiously watched, encouraged, and cared for. You never want to rush things along. Far too often, even nowadays, we’ve seen players return from injury sooner than necessary. It, at times, has resulted in the worst-case scenario.

So, in Hurst’s case, hopefully he is at ease until he feels he needs to come back. Some will probably say he should not, and those people wouldn’t be incorrect necessarily. But, nonetheless, this was a scary story revealed on Wednesday. Hopefully, things ease for Hurst and he makes a full recovery to a better quality of life.
